Cripple Creek around the 1890s.

Bennett avenue, main street of a booming Cripple Creek. Much of the action took place here but the seamier side of Cripple Creek was hiding just out of eyesight. At this time it was the fifth largest city in Colorado. There were more deals, more busts and more wild growth than anywhere else in Colorado.

Cripple Creek in the 1940s.

This is during the sleepy period of Cripple Creek. This sleepy little town had long seen the end of a gold rush and was settling down for the quiet days of the post war period.
Soon this small town would see a boom as large as the gold rush days. Casinos!  Photograph is of the same vantage point as above.

Cripple Creek, Today.

This photograph was taken near the same  point that the photos above were taken on a weekday on Bennett avenue. The gold rush days may be gone but the money rush continues unabated today, especially on the weeknights and on the weekends. Many of the finest hotels and Casinos in Colorado can be found here in Cripple Creek.
